Medical students are sometimes caught in a humanitarian crisis that can severely jeopardize their continued medical education. Due to the vast amount of knowledge and skills that need to be gained within a finite period, any prolonged disruption of studies can have a detrimental effect on an individual’s ability to complete his/her undergraduate degree. Such medical students can now take advantage of the Structured International Medical Education Programme, which will allow them to continue to gain knowledge and undertake assessments until the situation is conducive to learning in their respective Medical School. Designed by consultants and medical educationalists, this programme is not intended to replace the teaching provided by universities. Rather, it will complement the medical school curriculum.
